Taiwan is surrounded by the sea, and its geography and marine environment blend to shape the island's rich ecology and culture. To encourage students and the general public to actively initiate and participate in marine affairs, since 2013, author Wu Ming-yi and his mother Ms. Wu Zheng Xiu-yu have each year sponsored NT$100,000 to establish the "Ms. Wu Zheng Xiu-yu Black Tide Scholarship and Grant." This initiative continues to encourage and support various research and creative projects "themed around the ocean."
This scholarship and grant is divided into four categories: "Marine Science Research," "Marine Conservation Activities," "Marine Art Creation," and "Marine Project Science Exhibition." We hope to see the expertise and creativity of every islander, allowing the rich layers of the ocean to be seen and understood by more people.
Applications for proposals are now open and will close on October 9, 2026 (Friday). Projects can be brand new or already in progress. For information on submission guidelines and frequently asked questions about the scholarship and grant, please visit the Black Tide Marine Education Foundation website to inquire or download the application form (https://reurl.cc/Wzvx4x).
